"We won our first state title in track in 25 years," said Jones. "I finished second in the shot put and third in the discus. At the beginning of the year, that (winning state) was our goal and we did it with everybody doing their part.
"Our football spring practice just started a week ago and we have two more weeks left. Thursday, we're going to scrimmage (5A) Brother Martin and then Saturday we have our Blue & White game."
Jones single-handedly accounted for 14 points at the state track meet, with efforts of 50-10.5 in the shot put and 156-3 in the discus. The junior, who currently has offers from SMU and Tulane, says that other schools have visited Curtis recently to check him out.
"Recruiting has been picking up lately," he said. "Oklahoma State, Tulsa, and Southern Mississippi have all been by the school. I'm looking for a date to visit SMU and check out the campus. I'm excited about that. I have a few teammates at Tulane and they're trying to recruit me. They say that Tulane has been looking really good this spring."
Last year, the Patriots advanced to the 2A state finals before losing to fellow private school powerhouse Evangel Christian of Shreveport. Jones accounted for 68 tackles and 11 sacks as a junior.
