Players from foreign countries have made up a larger part of the SMU basketball team over the last few seasons and now they are trying to land a French citizen.

Last week, SMU offered Greg Sequele, a power forward who is currently playing for Ribet Academy in Los Angeles.

"We talked to Matt Doherty and an offer is on the table. They have been recruiting him pretty hard for a while. Reggie and Matt have both seen him play and like him," said Ribet Academy Coach William Middlebrooks. There are a ton of schools that could be close. We are a long way from signing period, so we are just trying to assess who is serious. SMU is just the first step."

Sequele has been playing in the United States for two years now. At 6'8, 225 pounds, schools like: Iowa, Washington State, Pepperdine, Utah, Illinois, UC-Santa Barbara are showing interest.

"Wherever he goes, he's going to make an impact. He is an amazing athlete. It's one of those things of trying to find the right fit," said Middlebrooks. "He's a perimeter player learning how to add a post game. He's got the 15-18 foot jumper down and can take you off the dribble as well. He's developing a little baby hook inside and his base is getting better where he can drop-step and dunk. He's already good at finishing around the rim and with put-back dunks."

Middlebrooks and Sequele plan to trim his list of potential colleges to five in August and the forward likely will sign a letter of intent during the early period in November.
