First Offer In For Edwards

St. Augustine High School in New Orleans is a hotbed of college football talent and perhaps the most potent offensive weapon for the Purple Knights is wide receiver Marc Edwards. One school has already offered Edwards and several more appear to be ready to extend offers as well. Where does SMU stand with Edwards? Read on to find out.

St. Augustine High School (New Orleans) has a plethora of talented college prospects on its squad and the top receiver for the Purple Knights is Marc Edwards. In last Saturday's spring game vs. West St. John, Edwards had a field day, catching eight passes for 250 yards with four touchdowns.

"Coach said to just line them up and go over the top," said Edwards, who reports that he's currently at 6-foot-2, 180 pounds. "I kept going deep and just looked up for the ball each time.

"We've looked really good this spring on both offense and defense. I got my first offer recently - from Memphis. Coach Scott came down and looked at my tape and he offered me on the spot. I'm also being recruited by SMU, Tulsa, Ole Miss, Mississippi State, Southern Mississippi, and Tulane. Ole Miss is my favorite right now. I'm a big fan of Mike Wallace and Kendrick Lewis."

What does Edwards think about SMU?

"I had a couple of teammates - Joseph Theard and Maurice Sutton - sign there and that helps, having them there in Dallas. I like a spread-type offense. I enjoy lining up in the slot and getting the football. I can get a short pass and take it all the way to the house. I'm a receiver who likes to block too."

In 2009, Edwards (36 catches, 300 yards, six TDs) was named first-team all-district in the highly-competitive 5A Catholic League.
