Raven Receiving Interest From Mustangs

Cornerback Floyd Raven of East St. John has two offers, but it appears that he'll add more soon. SMU is one of the schools showing interest in the two-star DB. Does Raven have a favorite school yet? Read on to find out.

East St. John (Reserve, La.) cornerback Floyd Raven currently has two scholarship offers and the 6-foot-1, 185-pounder will likely add more to his resume soon.

"I have offers from Ole Miss and Tulsa," said Raven, "and Arizona said that they offered me, although I haven't received any paperwork yet. I met with (Ole Miss) coach Kim Dameron this spring and Memphis and LSU also visited. SMU's coach came and watched us practice recently and I feel like I did good in practice that day.

"I like Ole Miss, but I'm keeping my options open and I would be interested in a visit to SMU. I'm just keeping my eyes open right now and looking at everything. I'm looking for a school that fits my personality. I didn't grow up watching college football on TV. I have three sisters and a single mom and so we didn't watch much football."

Last year, Raven mostly played outside linebacker, but he's projected as a corner or safety on the next level.

"I played will linebacker as a junior and some safety," he said. "I was in the box because most of the teams we played were running teams. We have a lot of young guys on defense this year and we'll pretty much have a whole new defense."

For awhile, it appeared that Raven might not even play football in high school.

"I didn't play until last year," he said, "because of some residency issues. I went to Destrehan, but they said that I wasn't eligible because of where I was living. Then I went to Bonnabel. I had to sit out and so I had just decided that I was probably going to leave football alone. Once I got to East St. John, the coaches convinced me to play. Coach (Larry) Dauterive got me out there."
