Rising Linebacker in Ponchatoula

Ponchatoula inside linebacker Kaleb Muse is a star in both football and track and he hopes to get some attention from college recruiters soon.

Ponchatoula junior linebacker Kaleb Muse is a star in both football and track and he's hopeful that college recruiters will soon take notice of his exploits. Muse was a first-team all-district selection last year, and he led the Green Wave in tackles (110 tackles, 68 solo, three interceptions, three fumbles recovered, two forced fumbles).

"I played middle linebacker last year, but we have a new defensive coordinator and so I'll be playing inside linebacker this year, since we're switching to a 3-4 defense," Muse said. "I'm 6-foot-0, 220 pounds right now and I think I can play linebacker or strong safety."

Muse said that he hasn't been timed in the 40-yard dash since his freshman year, but that he ran a 4.60 back then.

"I'm planning on going to some camps this summer," Muse said. "Hopefully at Louisiana-Lafayette and Louisiana Tech. TCU is a school that I like a lot. I'm benching around 320 pounds right now, with a squat of 540 pounds. I hold the school record in the shot put and I took first in the regional track meet with a 52-1."

Muse did even better at the state track meet (52-11.5) and he finished third in 5A behind Thibodaux's Greg Robinson and New Iberia's Dustin Edwards. As a sophomore linebacker, Muse recorded 80 tackles and picked off one pass -- and was named to the honorable-mention all-district team.
