Prolific Passer in Hahnville

Hahnville quarterback Brian Ensminger guided his team to the 5A quarterfinals last year and he did it in style, completing almost 65% of his passes. Ensminger will be putting his skills on display at SMU's camp later this week. Read on to find out more about the senior from south Louisiana.

Brian Ensminger can throw the football with the best of them. In 2009, Ensminger (6-2, 190) had a banner year for Hahnville (Boutte, La.), completing 135-of-208 passes for 25 touchdowns and only five interceptions. The senior helped lead the Tigers to an 11-2 finish and a berth in the 5A quarterfinals.

This week, Ensminger - who holds a Tulane offer - will attend SMU camp with an eye on impressing June Jones.

"I'm going to SMU camp on June 6," Ensminger said. "They (SMU) haven't said anything about an offer, but I know that Coach Jones is going to be at the camp - watching the quarterbacks for accuracy."

Ensminger demonstrated pinpoint accuracy last season, most notably in games vs. Destrehan (14-for-16, 206 yards, two TDs) and Sarah Reed (13-for-16, 210 yards, five TDs).

"SMU and Southern Mississippi came to my practice this spring and watched me," said Ensminger. "In the spring game (vs. 5A state runner-up Archbishop Rummel), I think that I went 11-for-14 with 132 yards and a touchdown. I made some plays running too. Rummel was getting into the backfield with their pass rush, so I stepped up - out of the pocket - and had about 40 yards rushing. My favorite target is wide receiver Derek Howard. Seven of the 11 completions went to him. He's going to be attending the camps with me.

"I'm going to the ULM camp on Monday (today) and Tuesday I'm going to Memphis. I like SMU a lot. Coach Jones is one of the best coaches around - he's coached a lot of great quarterbacks that have broken records. SMU is a good environment as a school."
