"It was very organized," said Garrity. "I learned some new things and it went really good. SMU has a great team and I would love an opportunity to play there. They have a beautiful campus and I like Coach Hill and Coach June Jones. Coach Jones is laid back, but he gets stuff done at the same time."
Last year, Allen lost its first two games and then bounced back admirably, not losing again until a heartbreaking one-point defeat (35-34) to Southlake Carroll in the second round of the Clas 5A Division II playoffs. Garrity, who was still learning the nuances of the defensive end position last season, still managed to put up some nice numbers - most notably his six sacks.
"We're going to be a little inexperienced this year," Garrity said. "We'll find out where this team stands when we open the season against Cedar Hill at SMU. It's a big test for us. We need to play with great fundamentals and do everything solidly. I've played both defensive end and linebacker (at Allen). At defensive end, I use my speed against the big guys.
"Hopefully we'll build team unity through our summer workouts. I'm personally looking forward to the Longview game. We lost to them in our first game of the season last year and they're really good."
