"There were tons of players at the SMU camp," Downs said, "and I really liked it. Coach Klemm was fun to work with and I've been talking on the phone with him a good amount. He's a good guy and he's said to stay in touch with him.
"At the camp, we ran the 40, the shuttle, did some agilities, and some bag punches -- before we went into the one-on-one segment. It was crowded and there were lots of linemen there. I went four times in the one-on-one, but if you didn't step up and do well, then you only went one time."
While Downs has confirmed in the past that he already has "multiple offers," his coach prefers that the specific schools not be discussed with the media. However, Downs said that he will likely visit SMU again.
Currently, the lineman is hard at work in the weight room and on the track.
"I'm training six days a week," Downs said. "My next camp, which is at Arkansas, isn't until next month - so I'm running and lifting and relaxing at home until then. Coach (Brad) Bradshaw does a good job of mixing up our workouts and keeping it fun.
"I'm looking forward to the Neville game this fall. They're the defending state champions in 4A and they have a couple of great players on the defensive line, including Demarcus Hodge. That game will have a big say in who wins district and I'm really ready for that one. Ruston is also a game that stands out, because they have a good defense and their team plays hard."
