Daktronic's has been chosen to install a brand new state of the art video and audio system for the Mustang's home Stadium. The upgrade includes a 32 ft. by 45 ft. video display system that will provide fans with higher quality picture and display capabilities. The board can show replays and live game coverage as well as divide into several segments to display necessary advertisements or statistics. The package also includes an upgraded sound system with new speakers and updated frequency capabilities.
This project is part of the four year $60 million plan to build newer facilities as well as upgrade existing ones. According to the SMU athletics website, "This is another sign of SMU's commitment to athletics," said SMU Director of Athletics Steve Orsini. "This cutting-edge technology investment will allow us to highlight the spectacular play of the Mustangs on the field and greatly enhance the fan experience."
This is also just another sign of SMU becoming a major college athletic program once again. With the addition of these new facilities and upgraded video and audio systems SMU can show its fans and the rest of the country how far they have come on and off the field in just the past few years.
I can only imagine what kind of effect this will have on incoming recruits. Not only has SMU continued to improve on the field, but now the entire football experience has been upgraded. Recruits from around the country can now have the chance to visit a stadium that can compare to other college football experiences, and will hopefully inspire them to choose SMU as their destination.
Now when fans come to Ford Stadium to watch the Mustangs on Saturday afternoons or evenings they will not only see a team that has the potential to reach new heights that haven't been reached in decades, but they can also have a complete 21st century college football experience.
