"I'm just going to a pool party in Chalmette this weekend with some friends," he said, "and I'm anxious to get up to SMU this summer and visit the campus. I need to talk to Coach (Jeff) Reinebold about that. SMU is looking good to me.
"Two weeks ago, I went to the Southern Miss camp and the coaches there told me to keep in touch. Other than that, I'm just doing my conditioning and lifting to get ready for the season. I do spend some time playing drums for my church."
In addition to an SMU visit, Jones is eager to take the field for his senior year.
"I'm excited about the upcoming season. It's my last year and we want to get back to the state championship. We're very motivated after losing to Evangel Christian in the finals last year. It's always in the back of my mind. That game gives me some extra kick, some extra motivation, to work hard and get that extra repetition or set in."
John Curtis was originally slated to face California power Servite (Anaheim) to open the season, but that game fell through. Now, there's talk that the Patriots will meet a team from Florida instead. At any rate, Curtis have a couple of early tests against 5A Mandeville and 4A Salmen.
"Mandeville will be one of the first games and we'll be pumped up for that," said Jones. "Salmen is always a good game. They have a good quarterback and they gave us a good game last year.
"In the district, one of the games is against Riverside Academy. We actually played them in the playoffs too last year. They have a quarterback, Darnell Rachal, who is a very good athlete. He has given us some problems in the past because he's hard to contain."
