This will be Beachum's third season with SMU, during which he has started every game in which he was eligible. After redshirting his freshman year in 2007, he has been an essential piece to SMU's offensive performance over the past two seasons under June Jones. Beachum blocked for an offense that set records in passing yards, passing touchdowns, and total offense in 2009. Also in 2009, he was selected second team All-Conference USA and was one of the 12 athletes named to the Davey Campbell All-Texas team.
The 6-3, 298 lbs tackle from Mexia, Texas was a two-star scout.com prospect and chose SMU over Big 12 School Iowa State. Beachum also averaged a double-double during his high school basketball career.
Along with Beachum, the other offensive linemen selected were Tyler Holmes of Tulsa, Scott Mitchell of Rice, Jah Reid of UCF, and Memphis' Dominik Riley.
Beachum and his fellow offensive linemen will look to keep their O'Brien and Manning Award watch list quarterback Kyle Padron upright for the majority of the 2010 season. No offense can be successful without a solid offensive line; therefore Beachum's continued exemplary performance will be critical if SMU's offense hopes to have another record setting season.
