Big Season Ahead for Borne

Gerron Borne of East St. John (Reserve, La) is one of the biggest names in Louisiana's Class of 2012 and with good reason, as the 6-foot-2, 270-pounder loves to wreak havoc in the trenches. Read further to find out more.

East St. John opponents - you've been duly warned. There's a 6-foot-2, 270-pound junior defensive tackle that anchors East St. John's defensive line, and he -- Gerron Borne -- intends on wrecking offensive gameplans each week of the season.

Alas, Borne hasn't wasted any time, getting off to a great start in a recent scrimmage vs. highly-respected McDonogh 35 of New Orleans.

"We did good; we beat them 40-19," said Borne of the scrimmage vs. the Roneagles. "They made some big plays, but we made more. I had three sacks, including a sack on their first drive.

"On a two-point conversion attempt, I got another sack when I blew past their offensive guard and got a blindside shot on Theltus Cobbins (Kentucky commmit), their quarterback. That felt good, because he's a quick, dual-threat guy."

This week, Borne and his teammates face neighborhood rival St. Charles Catholic in the jamboree, followed by a road game at Patterson and four-star RB Kenny Hilliard.

"We're ready," said Borne of the Patterson matchup, a 38-33 win for East St. John in 2009. "Every day, we're working on tackling and I hope to blow everything up that night. Our goal, as a defensive unit, is to limit Hilliard to less than 100 yards."

Borne sang the praises of some of the senior Wildcats.

"Floyd Raven, he's going to strictly be a cornerback this year - no linebacker - but don't be surprised if you see him line up at safety sometimes. Dhaquille Williams had a tough day in the scrimmage, because it was all muddy and slippery. He usually never drops a pass. Stafford Jones, one of our backs, has been running hard."

Borne is hearing from many schools, including LSU, Tennessee, Mississippi State, SMU, Nebraska, Miami, and Utah, just to name a few.
