Sams hears from Coach Reinebold

Jermaine Sams talked with Coach Reinebold on Tuesday afternoon. Did the SMU wide receiver coach have good news for the Louisiana product? We have the answers inside!

A week after seeing Nyle Johnson commit to the Mustangs, one Louisiana wide receiver must not be enough for SMU.

On Tuesday, talked with St. Paul's senior Jermaine Sams and he informed us that he talked with Coach Reinebold earlier in the day.

"I talked to Coach Reinebold today and he told me they are sending me an official offer. They will send me one offer in the mail to my house and the other to my school. I should be getting within in the next week," said Sams who has reported a verbal offer from SMU since April. "I have been waiting on that all spring and summer time. I knew that it would eventually happen. It was just a matter of time. I'm glad it happened and they are in my top three right now. I'm thinking about committing to them in the middle of the season."

A 5-foot-11, 177 pound slot receiver, Sams caught 29 passes for 662 yards (23 yards per catch) with seven touchdowns in 2009. This year his goal to surpass the 1000 yard receiving mark.

"Arkansas is picking up. I think they are really close to giving me an offer. I would expect in the middle of the season. Also Auburn is really picking up interest," said Sams who holds a South Alabama offer to go along with his SMU one. "I would say that Arkansas and SMU is pretty much a tie at this point. They both pass the ball a lot. It's pretty much going to come down to where I feel the most comfortable and where I feel that I work in their offense. I'm going to be taking officials to the schools that offer me. Coach Reinebold told me that he wants me strictly in the slot position and that I could play kick returner as well."

St Pauls finished 10-2 last season. Sams not only led the team in receiving, he more than tripled the closest wide outs numbers.

"We have been looking pretty good. We look explosive on offense and our defense has been looking like a run stopping team. We are picked to win district again and all we want to do is go to the dome. We have been working really hard for it. It's the hardest we have worked hard since I have been here," said Sams. "We scrimmaged last Friday and this week we start our team jamboree. Next week we finally get going. In our scrimmage I had six catches for 76 yards and a touchdown. It was raining so we didn't throw a lot." will check in with Sams again in about a week.
