Wall talks about tonight's big game

SMU commit Carter Wall is chomping at the bit to get his senior year started tonight, as his Fort Bend Travis squad locks horns with highly-regarded Klein Collins. Read further to find out what Wall has to say about the first game of the season.

Fort Bend Travis and offensive tackle Carter Wall, an SMU commit, open the season tonight against the Klein Collins Tigers, and PonyStampede.com spoke with Wall to get his observations on tonight's matchup.

"I'm pretty confident," said Wall, the No. 55 ranked offensive tackle in the nation. "We're going to find out just how good Klein Collins is. We need to play our game and if we don't make too many mistakes, then we have a good chance to beat them.

"We need to be able to run the football and we can't have turnovers. They don't do anything special with their run defense, but their mike linebacker (David Santos) - who is headed to play for Nebraska next year - is the real deal. I have to give it up for him."

Klein Collins is determined to stop the run, according to Wall.

"They run a 3-4 defense with the safety lined up only about five yards off the ball," he said. "He stays close to the line of scrimmage in run support, so we may try to take advantage of that by throwing the ball."

Wall said that his team has had a spirited week of practice.

"We had a really good week," he said. "The guys are antsy to get on the field, especially the ones who have played the last couple of years."

Klein Collins finished with a 12-1 mark in 2009, while Travis went 5-5.
