Sams is Number 20

SMU added two wide receiver commitments in a span of less than 18 hours over Labor Day Weekend, with the latest coming from St. Paul's speedster Jermaine Sams. How solid is Sams' verbal and does he plan on taking official visits to other schools? Read further to find out.

"I committed today and it's a soft verbal," said St. Paul's WR Jermaine Sams. "I'm going to take all my official visits. I told Coach (Jeff) Reinebold and he understood, so it's all good.

"I'm planning on getting to Dallas for an official visit at their homecoming game against Houston. The other officials I have planned are to Arkansas and Auburn. I haven't decided on the rest of my visits yet."

Sams had previously indicated that he would commit to SMU if he liked what he saw from the Mustangs on TV yesterday against Texas Tech.

What was the verdict?

"SMU didn't give up," he said. "They fought hard and I feel like they would have won, if not for the turnovers. They didn't start off very well, but they came back."

Sams plays for St. Paul's (Covington, La.), which is ranked in the top five in Louisiana's 5A classification. The Wolves got the season started right on Friday night, coming from behind to knock off Edna Karr HS.

Sams, who wears the jersey #20, is also the 20th commitment for SMU. He has an offer from South Alabama and is getting interest from Arkansas, Arkansas State, and Auburn.
