I still think that Southern needs to try and get out of C-USA, but not to the Big East... the article said it perfectly, they're just another "mid-major" conference now.
Honestly, I think that the MAC is going to be the best "mid-major" conference out there... There's no way that USM will ever get into the SEC, ACC, or Big 12... so maybe the MAC is worth a look? They currently have 13 teams, so the Eagle would even up the league... the only issue would be the distance for road games.
I have heard that 7 of the Big East's basketball-only schools are talking about leaving the Big East and forming their own conference. The 7 schools are: DePaul, Georgetown, Marquette, Seton Hall, St. John's, Villanova, and Providence-which are Catholic-run universities. Maybe the Big East may put Southern Miss in, but the odds are against it right now.
