Southern Miss Recruiting Nuggets

With signing day coming down the stretch run, has some inside information about closing the 2011 class. We will keep you updated all the way to signing day.

--Southern Miss will be having the big recruiting weekend next week (weekend of the 21st). They will host 26 guys here at once, and this is something new that has never been tried before. They will all be official visits, with the bulk of them (around 15) current commits.

This will be a huge, huge deal. There have been months of planning with GA's, student assistants, and volunteers to pull this off.

--There are still 2 spots to fill, and mostly they will be receivers and some guys who are back up plans in case we lose one of our current commits. --Recruiting coordinator Pat McGee on the current 2011 class, "This is a very solid class," he said. "We have some high academic guys, and it seems like every year we are getting a higher academic guy. With some of the NCAA mandates, it is tougher and tougher to have a guy graduate and stay with it."

"This class has a lot of speed in it, and a lot of athleticism. There are some really neat guys; I just hope we can hold on to them. We are very, very excited about this class."

--This weekend, there is one guy coming in to the Hattiesburg campus. Collins Moore, from Bob Jones High School will be in town. He is currently an Ole Miss commit, but is obviously still looking. When you can get a player on campus, anything is possible. The Golden Eagles obviously feel like they have a legit shot at this guy.

--There will be a ton of early offers the week of signing day for the 2012 class. We are planning on offering players throughout Mississippi, Louisiana, and Alabama. Two offers that have already gone out are Cleveland High (MS) WR/ DB Raymond Gee and Jordan Washington, DLine, of Suwanee, GA.

--Josh Pinkston update: he seems to be distancing himself some from Southern Miss. He only names Alabama and Ole Miss as his favorites, and says USM has not called lately. I'm less optimistic that he ends up in Hattiesburg.

--Max Mason will be on campus next weekend, and I still look for him to be the next Southern Miss commit.

--We will have a complete list of the guys coming to campus as soon as they are made available. Stick with for all your recruiting news.
