He talked about the first day of spring practice.
"The first day was a little odd at first, you know, new coaches, new plays, but I really think we had a great first day as a team," he said.
"We want to learn the plays and get comfortable with one another and the new coaching staff. We believe we can get back to that championship level this year."
Cotton said he is eager to learn from some of the best defensive minds in the game in the new coaching staff.
"The energy was great today from the coaches, and man it felt really good to have a defensive minded head coach, I really like that," he said. "We can beat up on the offense some now, and I know he'll be happy if we can get our defense in shape."
Cotton proved to be one of the top tacklers on the team last season, and as a ball hawk was always making plays for the Eagles. He knows the sky is the limit for him this season.
"I want to repeat and get another championship, because most important is the team," he said. "But, on a personal level I'd like to be all-conference or all-american, I have high expectations for myself."
The safety said he has put on 10-15 pounds, and is up to 205, so he is in great condition and ready to take on the new challenges of this season.
He is also familiar with the defensive scheme that Coach Johnson and West will be bringing in with many similarities to last season.
"We kept the Spur backer and 5 DB's on the field and we all felt real comfortable doing that," he said. "We feel real good about where the defense is and where we want to be in the near future. It is going to be a great year for us."
