Marquez McNair, WR, from Hinds CC was the first commit to Southern Miss and the class of 2016. Since that early commitment, he's never waivered in his pledge to the Golden Eagles, and almost a year later he's stronger than ever in his desire to wear the black and gold.
Today, he had a visit from Head Coach Todd Monken.
"My visit went real well, Coach Monken was just talking with me about my official visit this weekend and how they taste a championship," McNair told GoldenEaglePride.com.
"He also said that I get to come in and fill some big shoes in Casey Martin. I told him I'm the guy."
While McNair committed to Southern Miss in February, his desire to wear the black and gold actually started back several years earlier.
"I've always wanted to go to USM since the DeAndre Brown and Damion Fletcher days," he said.
"One of my role models from high school signed with USM, Michael McGee. Once they offered me and I sat down face to face with Coach Monken, I knew it was the place for me."
McNair suffered a knee injury in practice in his season with Hinds this year, and has spent most of the season working hard to rehab and get ready for his career at Southern Miss.
"I have been working out but I get released February 29th, until then I'll continue working out with the staff at USM," he said.
McNair will graduate in December and enroll at Southern Miss in January.
