Ten Prospects to Watch Heading Into the final month of recruiting for the class of 2016

10 prospects to watch for Southern Miss as they enter the last month of recruiting for the class of 2016.

As the Golden Eagles try to have a strong close to the class of '16, there are several key prospects they hope to land coming down the stretch.  This class already has 6 who have signed, and likely has 20-22 total spots available.  Here are 10 to watch closely as we inch toward signing day..

Keon Singleton, RB, Archbishop Carroll, Washington DC

Singleton has been recruited for a few weeks to Southern Miss by Coach John Simon.  The big 6'2 back will take a visit to Pitt in early February, but also has told us he'd like to play football in the south.  He's still trying to work out a visit to Hattiesburg in January.

T.J. McGinnis, ATH, Pisgah HS, Sandhill, MS

McGinnis just yesterday told GoldenEaglePride.com he'll be visiting the weekend of January 22.  He has an offer and named USM his favorite right now.  He'll also be visiting Memphis and ULL likely.

Jordan Kunaszyk, LB, American River JuCo (CA)

Kunsazyk picked up an offer to Southern Miss when Coach Williams paid him a visit at his school a few weeks ago.  He's a May grad, and has two years remaining to play.  He would be a nice fit for a thin LB crew for USM.  Watch for a visit this January from him.

Jeffery Simmons, DL, Noxubee Co HS (MS)

We've talked at length about the Eagle's chances with Simmons.  It is certainly on the outside looking in, but there is room at the table for Southern Miss.  With the connection to Dylan Bradley and his always favorable comments about the USM program, Simmons maintains they are in the hunt.  That's all you can ask from one of the nation's top defensive linemen.

Mikal Hebert, DB, Crowley HS (LA)

Hebert has shown up on the Eagle's radar.  The 5'9 CB is blazing fast and can also play some slot or even RB.  He is incredibly quick and shifty, and also has a nose for the ball.  He doesn't have an offer yet but is getting a lot of interest from Coach Simon as the Eagles continue to look to upgrade their speed.

Lordes Jones, DT, Santa Barbara City JuCo (CA)

Jones got a visit from the staff during their tour of California.  He's a class of '17 but is a full qualifier out of Junior College.  He's a very quick DT who will add weight and be a solid prospect to deal with in the middle.  Southern Miss is trying to get him on a visit this January.

Markus Boyer, C, Saddleback JuCo (CA)

Boyer is a center prospect who the Eagles are still considering.  He picked up an offer as well when he was visited by Coach Williams.  Boyer can play anywhere along the interior of the offensive line and was trying to work out a visit the last time we talked with him.

Wyatt Richthofen, OT, Catholic HS, (LA)

Richthofen picked up an offer to Southern Miss though he's a Tulane commit.  He got a visit from Coach Simon and talked with us about how well it went.  Wyatt is hoping to visit Southern Miss as well in January, and seemed to be leaving the door open for a flip to the Golden Eagles.  The coaching change at Tulane had him considering other schools, and Southern Miss seems high on his list.  Certainly one to watch over the next few weeks.

Toron Morten, LB, Phenix City (AL)

Morten's first offer was to Southern Miss, and he's been in contact with the Golden Eagle staff ever since.  The talented LB played in the blue/ gray all-star game and is receiving more and more interest.  If the Eagles have room, he could be a nice LB prospect for the future.  He holds about 8 offers right now.

T.J. Wallace, OT, Highland CC (KS)

Wallace picked up an offer to Southern Miss and will be a May grad.  The monster 6'3, 305 tackle would fill a huge need for the Eagles right now at that position.  He's another one that we will have to watch to see where he lands on recruiting visits in January.
