Anfernee Poindexter is a 6'0 athletic CB/WR from Central Lafourche HS in Raceland, (LA). The current Nichols St. commit has really good length and excels at making plays on the ball in the air.
One big reason is because of his love for the game of basketball, which he also has had quite a career at too.
"I love the game of basketball and I love my teammates that I play with," Poindexter told GoldenEaglePride.com.
"I just wanted to play one more year with my teammates. We've grown up playing together so that's what I'm doing now. I'm going to play football in college, so I wanted one more year to play basketball."
Poindexter certainly is a team first type of player.
"My team made it to the playoffs which we haven't been to since 2007," he said. "That is a legacy that our senior class can lead, and that's what I'm very excited about. I did have a good year, but more than what I did is what our team accomplished this year."
When asked about football recruiting, the CB said that though he is committed other schools are getting into the picture.
"I'm committed to Nichols, they have talked to me every day and they are 10 minutes from my high school," he said.
"But, I'm open to looking and making sure that I go to the right place for me."
Southern Miss was the latest school to offer him.
"I got a call from them and they offered me over the phone," he said. "I've been there to a game, I went to the last home game against Old Dominion and was impressed with everything they have there. I loved the atmosphere and the way the coaches treated the players. It would be a great place to go to school."
He said he's going to talk to the coaches tomorrow and set an official visit date.
Poindexter is also hearing from ULM, Louisiana Tech, and some from TCU.
"I might take another visit to either ULM or Louisiana Tech before signing day," he added. "Ulitmately, I just want to be at the best place where I can grow academically and play football for four years and grow as a person."
We will keep up with Poindexter and follow up if he is able to take a visit to Southern Miss.
