Hadon Merchant is a talented offensive lineman from Fairhope HS in Alabama who is continuing to move up the ranks of recruiting and is getting more and more notice from schools at the next level.

At 6'3, 285, Merchant is already drawing interest.  That is sure to increase as he heads into the important spring evaluation period.

"Right now I'm talking with UAB, Troy, Southern Miss, and South Alabama the most," Merchant told GoldenEaglePride.com.

"I was being recruited by the staff at Southern Miss before the coaching change.  Then all the new coaches started following me on twitter and they told me they were interested in me.  I have been keeping in contact with Coach Woz and others as well."

Merchant said he took a visit to Southern Miss last year and loved what he saw in the program.

"I went to a game and liked everything about it," he said.

"The fan support was tremendous and the coaches were welcoming.  It is a nice town and beautiful campus.  I could certainly see myself there and I'm looking forward to taking another visit."

The talented lineman said he has been working hard this spring getting ready for a big showdown coming later in May.

"We will be playing one of the top programs in the state at the end of the spring," he said.

"They have a big time defensive end and I'm gearing up for that.  I'm working hard on my overall strength, I've gained over 20 pounds of muscle, and my footwork has improved a lot too.  That has given me a great goal at the end of the year to look ahead to."

Merchant anticipates offers coming his way as he continues to work, and has a good idea of what he's looking for in his school of choice.

"I know I want a school that has a high academic program and one that I can fall back on," he said.

"I want to come in and compete and be around a group of coaches that I feel comfortable with and can call home.  I'm looking forward to taking visits and finding the right place for me."
