Chase Monroe picked up an offer to the school he had grown up knowing and loving.
When Southern Miss made the call to him to let him know they wanted him to be a Golden Eagle, Monroe flashed back to when his dad wore the black and gold.
"I've always loved Southern Miss and I remember those years growing up and pulling for them," Monroe told GoldenEaglePride.com.
"To get an offer to Southern Miss means a lot because of my connections there. I love the program they have and when you look at the town and campus, it just seems to me to be what college football is all about. When I go to Hattiesburg it just is a place I'm comfortable.
"I'm really excited about the offer."
Coach Pecoraro made the offer to him, after seeing his film and knowing the former staff at Southern Miss was pursuing him too.
"He told me they loved my film and liked what they saw in me," he said. "They wanted me to be a part of the future of the Nasty Bunch and the style of aggressive defense they are going to play."
For now, Monroe is going to be busy working out, preparing for next year, and taking a few spring visits.
"I'm not sure when I'm going to get down to Hattiesburg again," he said. "I know I'm visiting Wake Forest and Clemson."
There is no shortage of interest for the talented LB, who has picked up offers to Mississippi State, Wake, and is getting a lot of interest to Auburn as well.
"I got some good counsel that there is not just one perfect school out there," he said. "That has helped me just to relax and find the place where I feel most comfortable, and that's going to be most important to me. How do I get along with the coaches and players, how will I fit into the system, and all that is going to factor in."
Monroe certainly has a good head on his shoulders, but also a solid group of advisors around him that will help him in the decision.
He also said his goal is to make a decision near the beginning of his senior season.
"I'd like to maybe narrow it down and take three official visits next fall," he added.
He currently has offers to Southern Miss, Mississippi State, Kentucky, Old Dominion, Miami (OH), Wake Forrest and James Madison.
