Chauncy Smart is one of the fastest players in the state of Florida, according to Scout.com's Corey Bender. The talented athlete from Auburndale HS ran a 10.3 in the 100M, and Southern Miss has taken notice.
With offers already in hand from Western Kentucky, Troy, UTSA, and McNesse State, the Golden Eagles threw their hat in the ring last night.
"They told me they think I'll be a special player at Southern Miss, and they think I am a perfect fit for their system," Smart told GoldenEaglePride.com.
He also said he's doing his research on the USM program.
"I did my homework on them when they started showing interest," he said. "The offer actually came earlier than I thought, to be honest."
Smart said he's planning on waiting until the fall to take a visit, however. The staff at Southern Miss has plenty of plans for him should he make the pledge to the Eagles.
"They said they could use me in special teams, some slot, or even some running back," he said.
He will take several official visits in the fall before making his final decision.
