Dawson DeGroot, ATH (6'2, 190) from Ft. Myers (FL) has picked up another offer as the Golden Eagles of Southern Miss have thrown their hat into the ring.
The talented and speedy DeGroot can play on both sides, but seems to think his future in Division One will be on the defensive side.
"Most schools are recruiting me as a hybrid safety/ CB type, almost like a rover," he told GoldenEaglePride.com. "I feel like I'll be playing defense at the next level, and that is what all the coaches seem to think as well."
DeGroot also plays some wide receiver, and said they are learning a new offensive scheme for the season next year.
"We got a new offensive coordinator so this spring I'm trying to learn the new scheme," he said. "It is going well. We got our spring started late and don't have our spring game until next Friday night.
"The spring is going well. I'm not working on anything in particular, just trying to get better and learn the new scheme."
Recruiting has really picked up for him as well.
"I got a call from Coach Nicholson at Southern Miss," he said. "He is such a cool guy. He told me they loved my film and had a place for me at Southern Miss and wanted to extend an offer. They are working to get me in for a visit this summer and I am really hoping I can get there because I love what I see from them."
In addition to Southern Miss, DeGroot has offers to Rutgers, Boston College, Cincinnati and Central Michigan.
"I'm not looking for anything in particular as far as region of the country," he said. "All I want is to find the right fit."
