All Alton Richards was looking for was an opportunity.
That opportunity has come for the talented WR from Miramar, Florida when the Southern Miss Golden Eagles made the up and coming Wide Receiver his first scholarship offer. It was something he's worked for since he was young.
"It meant a lot," he told GoldenEaglePride.com.
"I've dreamed of playing college football since I was little and since then I have been working hard to achieve it. I always told myself that hard work would pay off, so getting that offer was a dream come true."
The summer for him now is focused on taking a visit to see the Hattiesburg campus.
"I'm trying to persuade my parents to let me go to the Southern Miss football camp that they are having," he said.
"Since practice starts at 3:30 I was going to use the rest of the day to fill out scholarships and get community service hours as well."
The Golden Eagle staff also hopes to see him later in the summer.
"They told me that I need to just keep working hard and getting better, and that they really want to see me at a camp in July," he added.
As of now, Richards doesn't have another offer but that is sure to change as the summer camp circuit heats up.
