Marcelo Rodriguez is a 6'2, 196lb QB with a very bright future. The talented QB drove over to Hattiesburg from Miami, FL, to take in the Southern Miss Elite camp on Saturday. He certainly stood out with his performance, and it was enough to land an offer from the coaching staff of the Golden Eagles.
"I was so excited to come over for the camp and show what I could do," Rodriguez told GoldenEaglePride.com.
"I came over early to take in the campus and atmosphere. It is a great school. Everyone is so welcoming and friendly, and it stood out to me that the entire school just felt like home."
The camp itself was one that Rodriguez said was a lot of fun.
"It was a great camp, the coaches were very encouraging and taught us a lot," he said.
"I just wanted to show what I could do. We did a lot of intro things like run the 40, agility drills and challenges. Then, we did some live throws where I felt like I really threw it well."
He threw it so well that the staff made him an offer after the camp.
"Coach Pecararo made a call to me and told me that Southern Miss wanted to offer me," he said.
"It was such a blessing. It shows that everything I've done has been worth it and it means so much that Southern Miss would take a chance on me. They've been recruiting me for a while. Coach came by my school and really wanted me to come to the camp. I'm so happy I made the long trip over, it was so worth it."
Rodriguez said he hopes to take another visit to Southern Miss before the summer. He has a few more camps this summer, including the University of Miami this week.
He'll certainly be one to watch through the summer and into next fall.
