Columbus HS in Mississippi has a super sleeper with great potential in defensive end Tahj Sykes.
The remarkable athlete (6'4, 260lbs) has the potential to be a break out player at the next level, and the Golden Eagles of Southern Miss have taken notice and have loved what they saw out of him at camp.
The feeling is mutual.
Sykes picked up an offer after an outstanding showing at the Elite camp last weekend, and was told that he was high on the priority list.
"The defensive line coach was just shocked by my talent during one on one drills," Sykes told GoldenEaglePride.com.
"I was killing every person that stepped in front of me and was determined to get through the other man. The D-line coach said 'man we need to get you here and we need you right now. You can come play for us right now.'"
After he got that offer, he felt a surge of excitement.
"Southern Miss is my dream school," he said.
"I had to put on a major showcase for them. It really felt like home to me when I was there."
He continued about his love of the in-state school.
"Southern is one of the best schools in the country. They have a strong fan base and I can't wait to be a part of an awesome program."
Even after naming them as a leader, he said he wasn't ready to name when a commitment might come.
"Only time will tell, and I am asking God to guide me in the process, but they are number one," he said.
He's also hearing from Louisiana-Lafayette, Jackson State, and a lot of JuCo and D2 schools. He'll be attending camps at LSU and Memphis before the end of the summer.
