It is always a big deal for a local star to be offered by his home town college.
Such is the case for Petal RB Stephon Huderson, Petal HS stand-out. The 5'10, 180lb back has always been on the radar of the Southern Miss staff, but it was at this past weekend's Elite camp that he truly took the next step in front of them.
"Camp was great," Huderson told GoldenEaglePride.com.
"I put up some good numbers. It was a good feeling knowing that my hometown team gave me a full offer. It was a great experience working with the coaches."
The local offer was one that meant a lot to the Dandy Dozen local star.
"It meant a lot to me knowing that the team I grew up watching as a kid offered me a full scholarship to come play with them," he added.
"It is very important to me to have the local school offering me. It means if I commit there my family and friends can all watch me play."
While he didn't indicate he was on the verge of committing, he did allude to the fact that Southern Miss is right at the top of his list.
"I've always grown up pulling for Southern," he said.
Now, his attention turns to winning a state title for the Panthers.
"Yes sir , we have a really good team with a really big opportunity," he said.
"We will be back to the 6a State Championship this year."
