Travon Mathis has a lot to think about when it comes to recruiting.
The talented 6'2, 260lb defensive end from Lanett, Alabama holds over 15 offers and there is no doubt he'll probably be over 20 before his senior season is over. Despite all the attention, the 3 star defender has stayed humble and continues to work hard and be thankful for every offer he's received.
He certainly has nothing but good things to say about Southern Miss, who have him pinned as a top prospect they are pursuing.
"I talk to Coach Woz all the time, he's had a great relationship with my coach," Mathis told GoldenEaglePride.com.
"He always tells me that they want me there at Southern Miss."
The feeling between Mathis is Southern Miss seems to be mutual, however.
"Southern Miss is a great school with a great community," he said. "They have exciting football. When God blesses me with a chance, I'm going to visit the school."
He said in addition to USM he hears most from Western Kentucky, Louisville, Georgia Tech, Troy, UAB, Purdue, and Tulane.
"I pretty much like all the schools that are interested in me," he said, not giving away where he is leaning.
"The hard part in the recruiting process is narrowing it down to where you would like to attend. That is where I am now."
Where he was hoping to make a decision before his senior season, it looks like he won't make that time table.
"I was hopeful before the season started, but I will have to extend that date because I'm not ready to decide yet," he said. "I still have more schools to visit including Southern Miss."
