Southern Miss is hoping to wrap up the summer portion of the recruiting season strong as they head into the fall. The Golden Eagles will now prepare to host prospects on campus as well as game weekends. Another bit of happenings this week is the staff sent out letters letting prospects know they have "official" offers to Southern Miss. USM is not the only program to do this. With social media and rumors rampant, coaching staffs are having to be more and more careful about being clear about who has a commitable offer or not.
Here are a few other bits of info from the week:
-Southern Miss picked up a big commitment from OLB from Pensacola Robert Reeves. Reeves was highly sought after and had an offer from Cincinnati as well. The 6'1, 200lb Reeves is still growing into the LB position and will bring length and great athletic ability to USM.
-The Golden Eagles also received some big news when Tahj Sykes, DL from Columbus, MS, made his commitment official to Southern Miss. Sykes has favored the Eagles and is continuing to impress the staff with his development this summer. He made a first impression and picked up an offer at an Elite camp earlier in the summer. He told GoldenEaglePride.com after a recent visit he was ready to make it official.
-USM also picked up a commitment from Jacoby Feliciano, S, from St. Augustine, Florida. Feliciano is a big safety who can really run and hit, and the Eagles also like his upside, which is tremendous. He makes the 7th commitment from the Sunshine state for the Eagles already in the class of 2017.
-Southern Miss hosted a nice defensive tackle today from Covington (GA) in Deion Watson. The big man reports on twitter that he had a tremendous visit. He picked up an offer way back in the spring before Junior Day. Highlights: LINK
