The Southern Miss coaches saw his film, he took a visit to Hattiesburg, and then after a strong showing at Elite camp a commitment was forged between Christopher Columbus HS rising senior Marcelo Rodriguez and the Golden Eagles.
It happened quickly, but there was no doubt that Rodriguez had found his new home.
He made the commitment back on June 22nd, and has remained perfectly steady to the Eagles ever since.
"I am 100% fully committed to the Eagles," he told GoldenEaglePride.com.
"I love the fans, the facilities, the town of Hattiesburg, the school itself. Everything. I have found my new home."
Rodriguez reiterated that he also maintains steady contact with the coaching staff.
"I love the coaches," he said. "They've always made me feel so welcome. They check up on me and we talk a lot, and not just about football. We talk about what is going on in my life and that really means a lot."
While remaining steady to Southern Miss, he's made sure that he did everything he could to get ready for his senior season this year.
"First of all my summer has been great," he said. "I've been working out and grinding this whole summer with my teammates, and I've been improving my game working on my footwork, and getting bigger, faster, and stronger.
"I'm very excited for this season. It is my senior year and I want to finish it strong with my teammates. I believe we can make a run at the state championship and win it this year."
His season is close, and gets going this week in a pre-season game against Boyd Anderson High School.
He also said he'll be taking a visit to Southern Miss to see them play Marshall in a homecoming contest.
We'll be continuing to track all the Southern Miss commitments and their senior seasons as they prepare for their futures as Golden Eagles. Stay tuned!
