Tahj Sykes will be one to watch closely over the next few months as he leads his Columbus High Falcons into the season.
The Southern Miss commit, who made the pledge with the Eagles in July, said he's ready to go out with a bang in his senior season.
"Things are going great," he told GoldenEaglePride.com.
"Every game counts to me and it's just a lot to take in when you know this is your last year. This is the last time I will be putting on that high school jersey. I certainly approach every game this year with a chip on my shoulder."
He playing like it too. An emerging force on the defensive line, Sykes is showing what made Southern Miss extend an offer when they saw him at an Elite camp this summer. After his commitment to USM, he's remained in close contact with the coaching staff.
"All the time I talk to them," he said. "They call every Friday and wish me good luck. Coach Lindsey and I always chat it up too about what is going on in my life."
His answer was simple when asked about his commitment status to Southern Miss.
"All the way SMTTT," he said, admitting he watched the game on Saturday too.
"That was a great comeback. It was huge to see them come back from that kind of defecit and keep fighting."
