Kai Higgins is a talented 6'4, 235 OLB from Chaffey College (JuCo) in California. Southern Miss has been looking for some immediate help on the defensive side, and Higgins just might be one who could provide a nice lift.
The staff at Southern Miss has shown they will look anywhere for talent, so though it was a surprise to Higgins, it shouldn't be to USM fans.
"After I released my highlight film I got in contact with the defensive line coach Derek Nicholson, he actually found me on twitter," Higgins told GoldenEaglePride.com.
"Then, we started talking and I got on the phone with him and he offered me. We set up a visit date for December 9th."
Higgins added that he honestly didn't know a whole lot about Southern Miss before the offer, but he is thrilled after it was made.
"I knew they played in conference USA and they played some good teams, but that's about all I knew," he said.
"The offer was one of the best moments of my life as I recall. All my hard work and dedication was paying off and the feeling was indescribable. I'm so excited to possibly be a part of the recruiting process for them and can't wait for the future."
Southern Miss is not the only school to express interest.
"I have also received my second offer from Sacramento State and I've been hearing from more schools like Louisiana Tech and a few others," he informed us.
He'll also be able to graduate in December as a freshman qualifier, so he plans to be a part of spring practice wherever he ends up.
Higgins played high school ball at Bishop Amant HS in LaPuente, California. You can check out his latest JuCo highlights here: LINK
