Taking a look at several of the JuCo prospects Southern Miss appears to be after..

Southern Miss appears to be looking for some upgrades and immediate help from the JuCo ranks. Here is an update on several JuCo prospects they are after..

Southern Miss has offered more and more JuCo prospects as it appears they are looking for immediate help in several areas.  The biggest needs appear to be at Safety, CB, offensive and defensive tackle.  The weekend of December 9th is going to be a big one for JuCo recruiting.  Southern Miss has invited a number of prospects to try and nail down just before early signing day on the 14th.

Here is a list of several prospects and some of the latest with them..

Mclane Carter, Tyler (TX) JuCo, QB-  USM offered McLane a few weeks ago and appeared to be very high on his list.  He was hoping to take a visit on the 9th, but then Texas Tech swooped in and are in heavy competition for the talented lefty.  Southern Miss is looking for some depth at QB with the loss of Mullens to graduation.  I wouldn't count Southern Miss out of the picture though the TT offer is going to make it tough.

Anthony Rush, Northeast MS, DE- Rush has been high on the radar for Southern Miss since they offered him back in the spring.  The talented 3 star speed end has all the tools the staff is looking for in their style of defense.  After an excellent season with Northeast, he certainly has a long list of suitors.  Along with USM, Mississippi State, Marshall, and MTSU appear to be in the mix.  With MSU almost full, Southern Miss could quickly emerge as a likely destination.

T.J. Jallow, East Mississippi, CB- The 6'2, 210lb Jallow is a prospect with all the tools to make a big time CB at the next level.  A former Louisville commit, Jallow has an on again off again relationship with the Cardinals.  With them likely out of the picture, a host of other schools emerge including Southern Miss.  Coach Wright and Hopson have connections with East MS, and certainly have a chance although it is outside looking in at this point.

Tim Bonner, East Mississippi, DE- Another East Mississippi stand-out, Bonner with is size and speed have seen some big time offers come across his radar.  In addition to Southern Miss, Texas A & M and Ole Miss have thrown their hat into the ring.  Both of those schools appear to be full, however, so I'd watch for USM as a dark horse in this race.

Amir Luckett, Scottsdale (AZ), OT- Just today USM offered Amir Luckett, who is a 4 for 3 qualifier.  The staff is working on getting him in for a visit on the 9th of December, but he's unsure exactly where he'll be taking his visits.  He's also being recruited hard by MTSU and Murray State, and those appear to be his three that he'll decide between.  It looks like it will come down to this visit on the 9th.

http://www.scout.com/player/170707-jermane-conyers?s=358

Jermane Conyers, Dodge City (KS), DT- Here is a big DT the Eagles are in the hunt with.  After signing with Indiana out of high school, Conyers didn't make the cut academically and went the JuCo route with Dodge City.  It has served him well and has really helped him maturity wise.  He's ready to take the next step and Southern Miss might be a nice landing spot for the big DT who is looking for playing time right away.  Right now, his only other offer is Bowling Green, so we believe these two are his top two.

Kai Higgins, Chaffey (CA), OLB- Higgins was very excited to pick up his first offer to Southern Miss.  The talented LB out of California played his high school football out west, and continued it at Chaffey, where he only played a year but is a qualifer and has three years to play.  He's intriguing with his size and athletic ability.  He's planning on visiting Hattiesburg on December 9th too, so the Eagles would have to be the early favorite.
