After a stellar career, four year starter Nick Mullens must move on. That pretty much leaves Sophomore Keon Howard, RSSr. Parker Adamson, and junior college transfer Kwadra Griggs to fight it out this Spring for the vacant USM quarterback position. None of the aforementioned athletes has much experience at the division one level. The lack of a proven quarterback obviously provides concerns for the USM offensive staff. Enough concern for the staff to offer junior college star quarterback Jordan Taamu a scholarship yesterday.

Jordan Taamu 6-3 205 New Mexico Institute. Originally from Pearl City Hawaii. In nine games this season, Taamu threw for 3014 yards and 32 touchdowns, with 8 picks. This stats were good enough to place Jordan at 2nd in the NJCAA passing per game at 334 YPG, and 2nd in passing touchdowns with 32. Jordan presently has offers from USM and New Mexico. He has been visited by Ole Miss, Oregon, and Minnesota.

I caught up with Jordan this morning. Here is what he had to say.

Offensive coordinator and quarterback coach Shannon Dawson visited Jordan yesterday to watch him throw. When asked how his workout for coach Dawson went he had this to say. "Throwing for coach went well. He really liked my throwing even in cold windy conditions. He really liked my arm strength and release".

After the workout coach Dawson made the offer. Jordan shared his thoughts on the offer. "I am just blessed and coach Dawson has been telling me about the quarterback situation and how he wants a mid year quarterback to come in and compete for the job, so I am really excited about the process".

When asked about what he was looking for in a school Jordan said, "I'm looking for a school that will give me a great education, a great football program, and a school me and my family think I can fit best in". Jordan will be majoring in Criminal Justice.

Jordan mentioned that he was in the process of seeing up a visit for the middle of next week. The obstacle is working the visit around his finals. Jordan will be getting back with us about how his visit to USM goes.
