Emanuel Dabney, 6'1 CB from Callaway HS in Jackson (MS) could be the state's top defensive back. The three star athlete also could be closing in on making his final decision on where he'll spend the next few years playing football.
He picked up an early offer to Ole Miss, then another one to Missouri this summer. The school that has made the biggest push late on him however, is Southern Miss. The Golden Eagles gave Dabney an in-home visit yesterday and let them know of their intentions when they extended him an offer.
With the in-state location and rich tradition, Dabney has known a lot about the Southern Miss program. Now, he's just ready to learn more before he makes his decision.
"Coach Hopson visited me and told me that they loved what they have seen in me," Dabney told GoldenEaglePride.com.
"They said I could have a huge impact with my speed on defense. They said they want to really upgrade their speed. He also said I could be used in the return game."
Dabney said his main goal now is just to get on campus.
"I'm just ready for that visit, that is what is most important to me right now," he said. "Southern Miss is likely my only visit this month so I want to take it and make the most of it."
Dabney, who has been clocked at a verified 4.3, said he's working out and preparing for track season right now. There was no date given on his visit, it could be as early as this weekend.
