Marcelo Rodriguez was one of close to 15 prospects who were on hand for a huge recruiting official visit weekend for Southern Miss. The Columbus HS (Miami, FL) quarterback has been committed to Southern Miss since last summer, and he's been fully committed since then.
A trip to Hattiesburg this past weekend to be on campus with some of his future teammates was just icing on the cake.
"My overall experience at Southern Miss is one that I will never forget," Rodriguez told GoldenEaglePride.com. "It was awesome. I had a great time talking to the coaches and getting to know them and talk about life and what was going on in my life. My host was Paxton Schrimsher and he is awesome."
Rodriguez said it was important for him to get to know his future teammates.
"I especially grew closer to Tim Jones," he said. "He's a really cool guy to talk to, and I also got to know Woodlyson Alcius who is already on campus. He's from Miami and we had a great talk about how our future at USM would be one together."
He also recalled the facilities he saw and what that meant to him.
"The highlight for me was seeing the locker room," he said. "It was awesome and I really was just speechless to be honest. No words could come out of my mouth as I saw how nice it was and the tradition of the school everywhere. Can't wait for it to be my locker room."
Rodriguez will make the long trek back to Miami this afternoon and then sign with Southern Miss on February 1st.
