News on visits, numbers, and the latest recruiting stock report

The latest news in Southern Miss recruiting. Included: visits, numbers, prospect stock report, and walk on info..

It is now less than a week before the 2017 signing day is sealed and delivered. I have been covering Southern Miss recruiting for over 20 years, and I can not remember their being so much question and speculation going into the final week of a recruiting season. The main reason for this is the staff has been extremely tight lipped with information regarding numbers and who we are actually recruiting. This season the majority of the information Drew and I have provided came through a great deal of research, internet messaging, phone calls, and comparing notes. Usually with less than a week before signing day all the recruiting services have a consensus on the size of a current class, and who is in the class. I have seen anywhere from 18-22 commitments listed.

After analyzing the numbers from the current football roster and last years recruiting class, as well as the current list of commitments, I have us sitting with 21 commitments. Some services have T'Rod Daniels on their list. I do not. Here is my logic behind his omittance. Daniels graduated from MSGCC in December. He should already be here. He has also not been on an official visit. If he does end up at USM, it could be as a grey shirt or more likely a blue shirt.

The last week of visits is also the time to bring in a need athlete, like a safety that you are attempting to flip late. Bubba Fludd may indeed end up here, but I think there are two players ahead of him with similar skill sets that the staff had in last week, in Jaylond Adams and Wesley Kennedy.

Below I will have a Stock Report. Some guys I expect to visit, as well as some nice athletes we are bringing in as preferred walk-on candidates. From my calculations I still look for the class to grow by 1-3. Like I mentioned before, Hopson and staff turned off any information coming out about recruiting and I would not be surprised if they have also instructed kids they are recruiting to do the same. With less than a week before signing day, the best word to describe the current state of affairs is FLUID. It should make for high drama on February 1st.
