Before the NLI's start rolling in on February 1st, Southern Miss is also keeping an eye on a year from now as they've already gotten in first on many from the class of 2018.
One such talent is Miami Central HS (FL) DB Jermaine McMillian.
McMillian is a speedy 6'1 DB who can play anywhere on the field. A ferocious tackler and ball hawk, he saw his early efforts pay off in an offer to play for Southern Miss.
"The Southern Miss coaches called my coach and told him that they want to make me an offer," McMillian told GoldenEaglePride.com. Coach Disch was the first one to be in contact with the Miami Central coach.
While he admits he doesn't yet know a lot about the program, he said he is eager to find out more.
"I remember that season where they only lost two games, won their conference over Houston and went to the Hawaii Bowl," he said. "That is when I first started to take notice of them."
McMillian, who also is a track and field star, said he's thrilled to have his first offer to Southern Miss.
"It honestly is such a blessing because it just shows me how all my hard work is really paying off," he added. Since the interview, he also picked up an offer to Toledo.
