Southern Miss has extended an offer to offensive lineman Jake Andrews, 6'3, 300lb class of 2018 from Stanhope Elmore HS in Alabama. The big lineman already has one to Troy in hand, and the Golden Eagles were his second.
Even for his size, Andrews is quite athletic. Much of that can be attributed to his involvement in wrestling, which has been a tremendous help for his foot work and agility.
"I've been preparing for sectionals this weekend for wrestling and state next weekend," Andrews updated us.
"My focus has been on that but after that I will be working out and getting weight back on for this football season."
The staff at Southern Miss liked what they saw in Andrews.
"The said they liked the fact that I play mean and aggressive, and also that they liked my athletic ability," he said. "Also, they liked my academics and ACT score."
For now, it is Troy and Southern Miss for him in recruiting, though he's likely to pick up more offers.
"Right now, I am just hearing from those two," he said. "Although, Coach Saban did come by and watched me wrestle."
Andrews said he also expects to attend the USM Junior Day on April 1st.
