John Hines recently picked up his first offer as a JuCo prospect when the Golden Eagles of Southern Miss extended one to the talented defensive end.
Hines, a 6'4, 235lb defensive end, originally signed with Western Kentucky out of Park Crossing HS in Alabama. He ended up at Southwest (MS) CC where he has been adding weight and learning the college game.
"Juco helped me a lot it really made me see that nothing will be given," Hines told GoldenEaglePride.com.
"You have to work 10 times harder than you do in high school. It really is preparing me for a university, and it helped me a lot knowing that everyone is good and there are no sorry people on the team.
"You have to really fight if you want to play at this level."
Hines, who will graduate in December and enroll in January, picked up his first JuCo offer to Southern Miss.
"They were very happy and said they will be happy for me to come on a visit soon," he said.
"I need to gain a little weight as well."
He already knew about the program as well.
"I know they have a lot of consistent, winning seasons," he said. "I'm excited to check out the campus."
