Southern Miss under Jay Hopson is going to make it a point to do well in recruiting within the state of Mississippi. They are already in on several talented prospects from their own state, and have offered talented defensive end Peter Gray from Tupelo High School.
GoldenEaglePride.com caught up with the talented Gray to hear about his most recent offer.
"Southern Miss said once they watched my film they knew I was a player," he said.
"Also, they said that they think I would fit in really well in how they run their defense."
Gray was thrilled with the offer, and especially the fact it is in his home state.
"It's awesome because it is close to home and my parents could come watch the game," he added. "That is really important."
The 6'4, 220lb prospect is not only a tremendous football talent.
"I'm currently playing baseball and I really want to improve my speed," he said. "It is just for high school for fun. My main focus is in football."
He's certain to get more attention as he already holds offers from Western Michigan, Memphis, Troy, and ULL in addition to his offer to Southern Miss. He also said he is not sure yet if he'll be able to make it to junior day in Hattiesburg.
