The Southern Miss defensive staff is always on the lookout to add some beef inside, and with the impending graduation of Draper Riley 6-4 310, and Rod Crayton 6-0 285 after the 2017 season, finding big physical athletes at defensive tackle is a high priority need for the next recruiting cycle. Look for Southern Miss to sign as many as four true defensive tackles in the 2018 class.
One talented young man at the top of the list for the Southern Miss staff is Daishon Folsom 6-3 325 from Pensacola FL, Escambia High School. Folsom is your prototypical nose tackle, with a huge frame and long arms. He has no issue stuffing and shedding opposing linemen and giving zero ground versus double teams. Daishon has offers from USM, UCF, and getting attention from Tulane, UVA, UF, UA.
Folsom first caught the attention of the Southern Miss defensive staff last Summer at their elite camp that was held on campus June 12th. After an impressive performance that day the staff got busy watching Daishon's film and an offer shortly followed. "They said they love my type of play. They call me a pit bull because I have the dog in me." Said Folsom. Folsom went on to tell Golden Eagle Pride, "There nose tackle is leaving after this year and they want me to come in and fill that spot."
When asked about Daishon's favorite he said, "Southern Miss is recruiting me hard right now. I have been talking to coach Disch and coach Hopson. They are showing me a lot of love, and Southern Miss is at the top of my list."
Interest in Southern Miss from Folsom is high and the feelings seem to be mutual. An early commitment to Southern Miss from Daishon appears to be a strong possibility. He plans to be on campus April 1st for Junior day and will continue to keep Golden Eagle Pride updated.
