Travion "Ty" Williams, 5'11, 170lb CB played his high school ball at Charleston (MS) High School where he received some initial interest from the Golden Eagles and Coach Monken. When the offer didn't come, he ended up at East Mississippi where he has one year under his belt and another one to come.
He was excited when the Southern Miss staff and Coach Hop made him an offer he's been hoping for.
"First of all I just want to give all my thanks to the man above for giving me the opportunity to receive this offer," Williams told GoldenEaglePride.com.
"They were talking to me about a lot of great things, letting me know that they had a lot of senior DB's leaving and letting me know I'm the guy to come in and get the job done. They also let me know I'm a Southern Mississippi type of guy."
Being an in-state offer means a lot to him, as he said he'd love to stay in his home state for college.
"It means a lot to me being a Mississippi prospect and a home grown kid," he said. "I like knowing I can be somewhere close to home where my family can come see me play. I already feel like family to the program too."
He also talked about his experience at the JuCo level, where he'll have one more fall to play before graduating.
"It helped me a lot perfecting my craft, keeping good character, maintaining excellent grades, and showing what family is all about," he added.
While Southern Miss is his first offer, he's also hearing from Ole Miss, Mississippi State, UCF, and Memphis.
