Tate Whatley is a 6'1, 190lb dual threat QB from Lakeland, FL, who just announced his decision today for the Golden Eagles of Southern Miss.

Whatley has been considering Southern Miss for a while since he picked up an offer, and he told GoldenEaglePride.com he didn't want to wait any longer before making his commitment.

"Well I prayed very hard about the decision, and I feel like God led me to the commitment to Southern Miss and it was put on my heart," he said.

"I also did my research on the different majors that Southern Miss offers and I am interested in a lot of them."

He continued to talk more about the reason for his early commitment.

"It's a beautiful campus and area, very historic," he said.

"Also the football and what coach Hop stands for.  That means a lot to me.  Coach Dawson and Coach Nicholson, how they treated me and my family.  They were always very honest and straight forward coaches."

The talented QB also holds offers from South Florida, Appalachian State, and Mercer.

More to come on the Southern Miss commitment.
