Colby Ragland is going to provide someone with immediate help at the offensive tackle position.
The 6'6, 270lb tackle played both offensive and defensive tackle in high school, and is being recruited on the offensive side now. He was one of close to 200 prospects on campus for USM's Elite Camp Saturday, and after the camp he picked up some good news.
"I was invited to the Elite Camp Friday and I had the pleasure of working out with Coach Losey and Coach Stork, doing drills and learning techniques because I just transitioned from D-Line to O-Line in the Spring," Ragland explained.
"After the camp, I had a chance to talk to Coach Hopson who I had already knew from when he was at Alcorn. He and Coach Losey had great things to say about me. I think they noticed that I have very good footwork and I have a lot of length and that I am coachable.
"They told me that I looked good and comfortable at Left Tackle. They didn't offer me on the spot but they told me that they would call me and surely enough Saturday I got the call from Coach Pollard letting me know that I had been offered."
The news was received well as Ragland was hoping for an in-state offer.
"It felt so good to have an offer from my state," he added. "I love Southern Miss. I didn't get a chance to see the entire campus but I did get to see the athletic facilities and they are really nice."
Ragland also holds offers from UAB, Troy, and Louisiana Lafayette at this time. He is a December grad and will enroll in January.
