Cal State struck early in the first inning with Josh Fellhauer's RBI single that scored Gary Brown.
In the second, Khris Davis hit a two run shot that would extend Fullerton's lead to 3-0. Tyler Koelling closed the gap in the bottom half of the inning with a two run double to make it 3-2.
In the fourth, Nick Ramirez hit a solo home run and Khris Davis scored on a ground ball sacrifice hit by Dustin Garneau bringing the score to 5-2.
The following inning would see another Fullerton home run to extend their lead to 7-2. The next inning Dustin Garneau and Christian Colon both hit homers to bring Fullerton's lead to 11-2 after five complete.
James Ewing hit his first home run of the season in the bottom half of the sixth to make it 11-3. That would be the eventual score in the final game of what was a forgettable weekend for the Golden Eagles.
Scott Copeland took the mound for the Eagles this afternoon throwing 4.1 innings giving up seven runs (five earned) on eight hits. He also gave up three home runs against the Titans. Wade Weathers came in for relief and gave up four runs in an inning of work. Matt Warren looked impressive late in the game working the final 3.2 innings giving up no runs and only one hit.
Pill Tyler took the mound for the Titans today, working six innings giving up three runs on six hits. Nick Ramirez would work 2 spotless innings of relief work before handing the ball off to Michael Morrison who would also pitch a perfect inning to close the game and the series out.
At the plate, USM struggled today only getting six hits and three runs highlighted by James Ewing's sixth inning solo shot.
Tyler Koelling knocked in two RBIs with a second inning double.
Cal State Fullerton had 13 hits today, five of them home runs. Gary Brown had a big day at the plate going 3 for 5 with two runs scored. Nick Ramirez also had a good day at the plate going 2 for 5 with a home run, two RBIs, and two runs scored. Josh Fellhauer finished off an impressive series with a 2 for 3 day with an RBI and a run scored.
Southern Miss will look to regroup as they return to action Tuesday at UNO before returning home to play a weekend series against Louisiana Tech. The game against UNO is scheduled to start at 6:30 pm.
