Spring Practice Day Three

With the first week of spring practice in the books, the Golden Eagle players will now begin their spring break activities. The Southern Miss coaches and staffers will make the final preparations for the program's first junior day which will take place tomorrow. Today the talk centered about on the current team and their work towards this season.

"I think we have made progress all three days," said head coach Larry Fedora. "The coaches, they have stood out. Its too early to tell on a player."

While the roster gained some new faces with the January enrollment period, the staff also saw it's share of comings and goings.

Fedora is impressed with the newest members of his staff.

"They are doing a great job," said Fedora. "They have had a short time to get indoctrinated to the offense and defense and what we are doing on special teams."

The newest member to the Golden Eagle coaching staff was not a new face at all. Former "Nasty Bunch" member Deke Adams was a welcomed addition by Eagle fans both young and old.

Deke is already beginning to put his stamp on things.

"He brings an attitude of what defense used to be played like here at Southern Miss and those were some dang good defenses," said Fedora. "Those guys will learn a lot from him."

With an extremely talented group of reinforcements set to arrive in the fall, Coach Fedora is putting the active roster through the paces to see how they preform.

"Honestly, I will never feel good about our depth," the head man said. "We are always looking for players to come in and take jobs.

"We're gonna try to recruit guys that are better than the ones that we have and that is how you get competition."

With the influx of talent and the increased level of competition, Golden Eagle fans may see some players moving to other personnel groups as the staff attempts to put the best eleven on the field.

"We've got a few guys targeted that we are going to take a look at early in the spring and see if they could help us in another place," said Fedora.

Coach did not elaborate on who those targeted players may be.

Spring practice will resume upon the completion of spring break.
