DE Hopkins solid to Stanford

Gonzaga Prep School (Spokane, Wash.) defensive end Charlie Hopkins committed to Stanford over the summer. The Cardinal stuck with the three-star prospect through an ACL tear, as Hopkins reportedly flew down to California to have his surgery performed by Stanford's team surgeon. But now that Jim Harbaugh left for the NFL, will Hopkins stick with the Cardinal? Read on to find out…

Hopkins, who earned admittance to Stanford a few weeks ago, said that while he was disappointed to learn of Harbaugh's departure, he is still committed to the Cardinal.

"It sucks, but I'm still committed to Stanford and I'm excited to see who they find to be their new coach," Hopkins said.

While Hopkins said he hasn't touched base with any fellow commits to gauge their reaction, he did have a chance to speak with defensive line coach Randy Hart. Unfortunately for Hopkins, Hart was unable to shed any light on the situation.

"I talked to the defensive line coach, Coach Hart, and he didn't really know anything," Hopkins said. "He had no idea what's really going on."

And Hart wasn't the only coach who called's 33rd ranked defensive end in the nation this week – coaches from three Pac-10 schools called Hopkins to let him know they'd still like to acquire his services.

"USC has called me, and UCLA and UW," said Hopkins, who reports offers from all three schools.

With that in mind, The Bootleg wanted to clarify whether Hopkins would only truly be 100% with Stanford once a new coach was named, or if he planned to attend Stanford regardless of the coaching decision.

Hopkins' response?

"I will be going there regardless," he said.

Hopkins added he plans to take his visit to Stanford next weekend.
